How We Care for You

3 Practices to Know About

While you’re here, your safety and wellness are our utmost concerns. Here are three practices we’ll be doing to make sure you get well and stay safe.

1. Clinical Hourly Rounding

Our nurses check on you every hour during the day from 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., and then every two hours from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Nurses check on you to see how you’re doing, assess your safety, check on your pain level, make sure you have everything you need within reach, and see if you need anything else, like water or a bathroom break. Your nurse will update the whiteboard in your room and make sure everything is still correct.

2. Bedside Shift Report

Our nurses work shifts, usually 8- or 12-hour shifts. At the end of your nurse’s shift, he or she will bring your new nurse into your room. Both of them will discuss with you (and your family, if you want) how your care and treatment plan have been going. They may ask you questions about how you’re feeling, if you need anything or if they’ve missed anything.

Our nurses may wake you if you’re asleep; if you don’t want to be awakened for your bedside shift report, let us know. If you don’t understand anything they’re saying, please ask! The nurses will also assess your safety, update your whiteboard and let you know what to expect for the next shift.

3. Nurse Leader Rounding

A Nurse Leader will visit you daily to check on your care and comfort. The Nurse Leader may ask you about your experience in the hospital so far, how your nurses are treating you, if you are satisfied with the food service, how well your room is being cleaned or what else could be done to improve your stay. Please be honest! We value your feedback and are always looking for ways we can improve.

You’re Part of the Team

You and your family are important members of your healthcare team. We want to make sure we’re all together when we discuss your plans, in the hospital and when you leave the hospital. Please ask questions about anything that is unclear or if you don’t understand.
