Fire Safety

We conduct fire drills from time to time. If you hear an alarm, stay where you are. In the event of an actual emergency, hospital staff will notify you.

Gender Identity

If your gender identity is different than the sex you were assigned at birth, please let the registrar know each time you register at one of our facilities. We respect your privacy and want you to be comfortable during interactions with our staff.

Hearing Impaired

We have many communication devices available to help those with hearing impairment. For help, please contact your nurse.

Hourly Rounding

An important part of providing you with excellent care and service is hourly rounding. We do hourly rounding to address your care and comfort needs.

During this time, we will check your pain, comfort and if you need to use the bathroom. We also will ask if you need anything moved or within easier reach. Sometimes you may hear us refer to this as the Four P’s: pain, position, potty and possessions.

Internet Access

We are pleased to offer wireless public internet access free of charge to our patients, families and visitors. To connect, choose “ShorePoint Guest Wireless” and open your internet browser on your personal laptop or PDA. No password is required. We do not provide computers or laptops.

Interpreters

We have access to interpreters for a number of foreign languages and sign language. For information, please contact your nurse.

Mail and Flowers

Hospital volunteers will deliver mail and packages to your room once a day Monday through Friday. Any mail received after your discharge will be forwarded to your home address. You may give stamped, outgoing mail to a volunteer or leave it at the nurses station.

Medicine

Please do not bring any prescription or over-the-counter medicines to the hospital. All medicines you take in the hospital need to be prescribed, filled and given to you by hospital staff. Tell your doctor about any medicines you regularly take. If you still need them, hospital staff will give them to you.

Pastoral Care

We have several volunteer chaplains and clergy who are the spiritual and ethical advocates for our patients and their families. Patients and their families may call them at any time. To request a visit, please contact your nurse or dial 0 for the operator.

Patient Meals

Our dietitians approve all inpatient menus based on the dietary guidelines of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. If a physician or nurse requests it, the dietitians will consult with a patient and/or family to explain why the restricted diets are necessary and how to incorporate them into the daily routine.

We request that patients refrain from eating in the cafeteria because your dietary needs and orders are not known to cafeteria staff.

Personal Belongings and Valuables

Personal care items, such as contact lenses, eyeglasses, hearing aids and dentures, can be stored in your bedside stand when not in use. Please do not put them on your bed or food tray to help avoid them being lost or damaged. Leave valuables like jewelry or cash at home, or give them to a trusted relative or friend to watch over. Our hospitals will not be responsible for replacing personal belongings.

Public Restrooms

For everyone’s health and safety, we ask visitors not to use patient restrooms. Public restrooms are located throughout the hospital. Ask hospital staff to direct you to the nearest one.

Safety

For your safety and the safety of others, your healthcare team requests that you remain on your assigned unit. Should you leave your assigned unit without staff knowledge or doctor authorization, you may be considered an elopement and discharged from the hospital.

Smoking

For our patients, visitors and staff, we are a smoke-free hospital. This includes all electronic smoking devices such as e-cigarettes and vapors. You can request a nicotine replacement alternative from your physician.

Telephone

Your bedside telephone enables you to place most local and credit card telephone calls. To place a call, dial 9+ the number.

TV

Each patient room has a television. Please be considerate of others by keeping the TV volume down and turning off your TV at bedtime.

Visitors

Having a loved one at the bedside can be helpful during the healing process, and we encourage visitors to spend time with patients when able. In accordance with the “No Patient Left Alone Act” passed by Florida lawmakers, all patients are entitled to a visitor or designated support person. Please check with the nursing staff regarding the current visitor guidelines and to ensure a visit occurs at the most appropriate time. We encourage our patients to connect with family and friends using FaceTime or another video communication app when possible. Patients have access to our Guest Wi-Fi network, and we will assist patients and family with these connections.
